New event for subclass 408

The instrument specifies a new event for the purpose of paragraph cl 408.229(b) of Schedule 2 to the Migration Regulations 1994 (Cth)

Bridging visa conditions Regulations

"The Amendment Regulations amend provisions which enable the Minister to grant a BVR visa without application to an individual, including in circumstances where the non-citizen" and "provide for a range of new and amended conditions for BVR visa holders"

A Bill to create the Administrative Review Tribunal

The Bill "would establish a new, fit-for-purpose, federal administrative review body, to be named the Administrative Review Tribunal (the Tribunal), which will replace the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT)"

Consequential Bill for new Tribunal

Among other things, the Bill: "Abolishes the Immigration Assessment Authority and harmonises provisions relating to reviews of migration and refugee decisions (providing a broader suite of tools for the efficient and effective resolution of these matters). Adjusts the exhaustive statement of the natural justice hearing rule for migration and protection matters..."

Citizenship repudiation

The new Bill "would amend the Citizenship Act and other Commonwealth Acts to repeal the invalid provisions and establish a revised citizenship cessation regime that appropriately addresses the implications of the High Court’s judgements in Alexander and Benbrika..."

Bridging visa conditions and other measures

"The Bill strengthens the BVR framework for the NZYQ-affected cohort and targets those with a serious history of offending in relation to the most vulnerable people in our society, including children..."

Changes to subclass 200 and 201 visas

The new Regulations "allow for the power to certify an applicant for a Subclass 200 (Refugee) visa or a Subclass 201 (In-country Special Humanitarian) visa as being a member of a class of persons specified by the Minister and as being at risk of harm as a result of the person’s membership of that class to be delegated by ‘relevant Ministers’ to senior executive-level staff within ..."

Location requirement for grant of certain visas & more

The new Regulations allow applicants for two visa subclasses to be either in or outside Australia at the time of visa grant and amend who can apply for merits review for one of those subclasses

Regulations expanding access to TRT stream

The new Regulations "amend the Migration Regulations 1994 (the Migration Regulations) to expand access to the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream of the Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) visa (Subclass 186 visa). The changes also apply to the TRT stream of the Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) visa (Subclass 187 visa)."

Ending the COVID-19 concession 

This instrument specifies the date for the purposes of paragraph 1.15N(1)(b) of the Migration Regulations 1994 (Cth), as the day on which the COVID-19 concession period ends
